This denomination was approved in 2001 and includes a large part of the villages which used to make up the former D.O. Tarragona-subzone Falset.

It includes the villages of La Bisbal de Falset, Cabacés, Capçanes, Cornudella de Montsant, La Figuera, Els Guiamets, Marçà, Margalef, El Masroig, Pradell, La Torre de Fontaubella, Ulldemolins, part of Falset, part of El Molar, Darmós, and La Serra d´Almos

The D.O.Q Priorat covers an area of 3700 hectars and was approved in 1954. The villages which belong to this denomination are Scala-dei, la Morera del Montsant, la Vilella Baixa, la Vilella Alta, Gratallops, Porrera, Bellmunt, Torroja, part of El Molar, Lloar, Poboleda and a part of Falset.
